Social Networking – FUN? WASTE OF TIME? CAUTIOUS PLACE? NETWORKING....
YES! Social
Networking has evolved and its current look is bigger & powerful than anything.
Social Networking in the information era is a more than a place to be. Besides
catching up with old friends, making new friends, bumping into old flames,
socializing with your colleagues, teachers & family and most importantly
browsing & posting silly thing, SNA is slowly changing our lifestyle.
If you are not on
any of these networks well stay tuned, you are bound to join one eventually!
'When you're a kid you can be friends with
anybody. Remember when you were a little kid what were the
qualifications? If someone's in front of my house NOW, That's my friend, they're
my friend. That's it. Are you a grownup? No. Great! Come on in. Jump up
and down on my bed. And if you have anything in common at all, you like Cherry
Soda? I like Cherry Soda! We'll be best friends but it’s very hard to make
a new friend. Whatever the group is that you've got now that's who you're
going with. You’re not interviewing, you're not looking at any new people,
and you’re not interested in seeing any applications. They don't know the
places. They don't know the food. They don't know the activities, If I
meet a guy in a club on the gym or someplace I'm sure you're a very nice
person you seem to have a lot of potential, but we're just not hiring
right now.'
--an extract from
Jerry Seinfeld's Stand up. True isn't it? Even after decades. Something else is
there. What? It is Social Networking.
Ever wondered, why
make friends? The answer to it aptly fits with Social Networking. This isn't a
newbie it has been around since the 1800s. SNA is networking's evolution.
Making friends on Social Networking websites is relatively simple. Though it is
no substitute to socialize with somebody in person, but it can be an
'icebreaker'. You don't need a reference.
If you have a decent
number of friends via a social networking website you have a diverse set of
professionals, rather resources. Rephrasing, it is a pool of diversified
talents or a potential market.
Business? Yes! That
is what most corporations do with Social Networking. Your friend on a Social
Network can be your business tomorrow. There are plenty of techniques available
on the Worldwide Web on how to hone your network and utilize the Social
Networking to its potential. It is not as pointless apart from connecting and
gossiping with friends, a recent
study claims that Social Networking Websites provide users with
new social skills. Over 77 percent of employers are now screening
potential employees through websites such as Facebook and Twitter.
This does not change
just your lifestyle & friends but also your career. It is more of a social
cult. If you are not a popular site, you might be a social outcast.
With Great Power
Comes Great Responsibilities, SNA exposes an individual. A silly post/comment
can lose a job or a relationship. Internet ethics is subjected to a lot
of criticism & arguments. A wise mind makes hay while the sun
shines. Brushing asides such cons which always accompanies with man's every
move forward, isn't it wise to make use of the opportunity. From times of Greek,
it is taught that opportunity comes at a premium. Before Social Networking is
outdated here is our chance.
Happy Surfing!!!
